LINE-UP

Our first collaboration is between Spindle Ensemble and Panther Panther, and our second is between poet Malaika Kegode and acapella composer Ellie Showering...

SPINDLE ENSEMBLE
Spindle Ensemble are an experimental acoustic instrumental group from Bristol who formed in 2016. They play original compositions combining elements of Classical, Folk and Jazz, creating music of a cinematic nature. The compositions are deliberately interpretable, leaving room for improvisation and playful interaction between the musicians. Influences and comparisons include Moondog, Somei Satoh and Eric Satie.

Spindle Ensemble is part of the Bristol based musical collective ‘Bloom’.

Daniel Inzani – piano, accordion, celtic harp
Caelia Lunniss – violin
Harriet Riley – marimba, vibraphone
Jo Silverston – cello, musical saw

‘They crafted beautifully layered landscapes of sound with enormous empathy for each other’s playing. Following their own highly original musical pathways – sometimes Balkan-sounding or even Chinese at times, Spindle Ensemble are a film-producers dream – their music exudes atmosphere which deserves commissioning.’ Stage Talk Magazine

‘Beautiful sounds, definitely a band to watch’ Fiona Talkington on BBC Radio 3, Late Junction

MALAIKA KEGODE
Malaika Kegode is a poet, performer and promoter from the South West, always looking for stories to tell. Her work focuses on the deeply personal and intricate beauty of the people around us. Her own event Milk Poetry has been a well received addition to the Bristol poetry scene since 2015.

She has performed at Bristol Old Vic, Boomtown Festival, Tobacco Factory Theatre and Hammer & Tongue amongst others, and worked with organisations such as BBC 1Xtra and the Roundhouse.

Rebecca Tantony described her work as '... brave and honest and a thing of beauty to wrap your ears around. Unafraid of her shadows and in celebration of her golden parts, her words are to be heard.”

ELLIE SHOWERING
Ellie is a Bristol based singer, performer and composer who specialises in a capella and music in a theatrical context. Since graduating from Dartington College of Arts in 2009 with a degree in Contemporary Music Performance, her collaborative work has ranged from intimate shows designed for an audience of one to sold out theatre tours across the UK and Europe. Looking to push the limitations of the human voice, she actively seeks out challenging and engaging vocal and performance work. As well as being a singer, Ellie is a multi-instrumentalist with a keen interest in body percussion.

Ellie is the Musical Director for Insane Root theatre company.
“One of the most inspired productions in recent years...
Beautifully haunting music from Ellie Showering...
It is simply a sensory feast.”
