The Lovers of Invention are an eight-piece band from South London dedicated to bringing Frank Zappa’s iconic fusion of jazz, rock, blues and psychedelia to life for a new generation.
It goes without saying that Frank Zappa was one of the most innovative and stylistically diverse musicians of his generation. His work was characterised by its irreverence, free-form improvisation, sonic experimentation, musical virtuosity, and satire of American culture.
This is a great chance to hear a set of Zappa originals getting a rare live workout by some of the finest young UK Jazz talent, arranged and led by Ben Vize on keyboard. The set will include the band’s unique takes on Zappa compositions from across his 70s heyday, from classics like Cosmik Debris and Peaches En Regalia, to deep cuts from his epic, bizarre masterpiece LP Joe's Garage.
Expect a faithful reproduction of Zappa’s original sound, alongside explorations into the improvisatory spirit of his live variations.
