Ruhrtriennale - Erased Music: Tribute to Wendy Carlos with Will Gregory Moog Ensemble

  • Turbinenhalle an der Jahrhunderthalle Bochum (map)

Homage to a pioneer of electronic music.

Wendy Carlos is one of the most significant living artists in the history of electronic music. Alongside her scores for Stanley Kubrick’s films A Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Disney’s Tron she made music history with her first album: On Switched on Bach (1968) she combined engineering craftmanship with musical vision and translated classical baroque music into innovative electronic sounds. This revolutionary bestseller made her the first trans woman to win a Grammy.

Will Gregory, keyboardist, producer, and composer of the electronic music duo Goldfrapp, first heard Wendy Carlos' Bach transcriptions on the radio. The album laid a foundation for his artistic development. This inspiration is reflected in his concerts with the Will Gregory Moog Ensemble. Eight virtuoso keyboardists with rarities from the golden age of analogue monosynths present a programme of original compositions and arrangements that recall Wendy Carlos' work. Compositions by Bach, Händel and Purcell, as well as variations of more recent treasures from music history and from their latest album Heat Ray will be heard in concert.
