Fairfield House Ethio-Jazz Project feat special guests Trevor Mires & Gary Alesbrook
From 1936-1941 Haile Selassie was exiled to Fairfield House, Bath, England due to Mussolini’s invasion of Ethiopia. Upon his return to Ethiopia, a flourishing jazz scene emerged spawning such luminaries as Mulatu Astake, Hailu Mergia & Walias Band during the 60s & 70s.
Fairfield House is now a community hub and heritage attraction dedicated to the lives of Haile Selassie and the Ethiopian royal family in exile: fairfieldhousebath.co.uk
2024 marked 70yrs of Haile Selassie as Hon. Freeman of the City of Bath and Fairfield House Ethio-Jazz Project was assembled to perform at the celebrations across the city.
Featuring some of the South-West’s finest musicians (and including a visiting guest from London) performing Ethio-Jazz classics and original compositions:
Trevor Mires - trombone
Gary Alesbrook - flugelhorn/trumpet
Harriet Riley - vibraphone
Ross Hughes - bass clarinet/flute/synth
